How Do I Choose My Contractor?

If the thought of finding an installer you can trust to lead your new patio project is intimidating, you’re not alone. Properly designed and installed patios can be a significant investment, and you want to do everything possible to ensure it's completed to your satisfaction. Here are a few tips to help you find the right contractor for your project.

Research Candidates. The Internet is a great place to start your search. Visit contractors' websites and review their work to determine if their style is a good fit for your vision. For customer reviews, visit sites like Houzz, Angi, and HomeAdvisor. Ask friends, family, and neighbors who’ve had outdoor projects recently completed if they would recommend their contractor.

Confirm Qualifications. Reliable contractors often seek certifications from industry organizations like the Concrete Masonry and Hardscape Association or the National Association of Landscape Professionals. They should also be forthcoming with work portfolios and customer references. This is also an excellent time to verify the contractor possesses liability insurance and worker’s compensation coverage to protect you from any accidents on your property.

Get Multiple Quotes. When you’ve narrowed your choices down to a few, request detailed quotes from each one. Be sure each quote includes everything you’re looking for in your patio and reflects your expected completion timeframe. When comparing quotes, remember that the cheapest option may not always be your best choice.

Finally, listen to your instincts. Consider you’ll be working with this contractor for the duration of your project so you should feel comfortable hosting direct and honest conversations with them. They should also be receptive and responsive to your communications.
